Environs Inc was the Landscape Architect in conjunction with HNTB planners for the planning and design of the new signage elements for the built portion of the Louisville Loop Trail, a planned 100 mile pedestrian loop around the Louisville Metro area. Signs are the key tools to provide identification, uniformity, direction and wayfinding to the Louisville Loop. The planned signs will help users to locate themselves in relation to their surroundings and identify functional information thereby understanding and navigating the Loop successfully.
Each of the sign types relies on graphic communication techniques to share cohesively important information to the trail users. The signage program includes: Trailhead, orientation, directional, identification, and interpretive signs too keep users informed while on the Loop as well as mile marker bollards and insets to help users keep track of the distance travelled on the Loop.
The installation of the initial signage program is expected to be completed in early 2012.
