Environs Inc along with artists Meg White and Al Nelson, were one of five teams shortlisted to design a memorial for the Flight 5191 tragedy. Although the project was given to another team, the Environs team design is shown here.
The memorial designed by the Environs team, to be located within the rose garden of the University of Kentucky Arboretum, was entitled “Transcendence” and represented the transition between this life and the next for the forty-nine victims. As the team lead, Environs was responsible for coordinating the interests of the various committees with the artists and for managing the project design, installation, and site improvements. Team members were also involved with enlisting public support through workshops bringing the portions of the sculpting of memorial to the people.
