Environs Inc was the landscape architect in conjunction with HNTB planners for the planning and design of new signage elements for the built portion of the Louisville Loop Trail, a planned 100 mile pedestrian loop around the Louisville Metro area. Signs are the key tools to provide identification, uniformity, direction and wayfinding to the Louisville Loop. The signs help users to locate themselves in relation to their surroundings and identify functional information, thereby understanding and navigating the Loop successfully.
Each of the sign types relies on graphic communication techniques to share cohesively important information to the trail users. The signage program includes trailhead, orientation, directional, identification, and interpretive signs to keep users informed while on the Loop, as well as mile marker bollards and insets to help users keep track of the distance traveled on the Loop.
The installation of the initial signage program was completed in early 2012.
