Environs & Jones was the planning and landscape architecture team for this master plan, which redesigned the Oldham County History Center site in LaGrange, Kentucky. The master plan focused on pedestrian circulation, creating a welcoming environment, and handicap accessibility. On site, historic iron fencing was cleaned and replaced, and a new handicap accessible entrance off of Jefferson St. and 2nd St. was installed, as well as new handicap accessible parking spaces.
Future plans for the site include a full-sized statue of WWII veteran Bruce Heilman on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. In the years since the war, Heilman has become known for riding his Harley around the country, spreading awareness of WWII veterans and their contributions to the nation. The statue will be climbable for children and a good photo op for families.
In addition, the existing historic garden will remain prominent on the site, the chapel was renovated into an educational center, and the history museum was renovated and is currently open for visitors.
